Holistic medicine practitioners believe that the whole person is made up of interdependent parts and if one part is not working properly, all the other parts will be affected. In this way, if people have imbalances (physical, emotional, or spiritual) in their lives, it can negatively affect their overall health. (Web MD)
At the Yorkshire Physiotherapy Network we offer a range of holistic therapy treatments including acupuncture, massage therapy and osteopathy.
Acupuncture is an ancient Eastern medicine steadily gaining in popularity in the west due to its ability to treat a wide range of ailments effectively, with little or no adverse side-effects.
Using very fine needles inserted into various points on the body, acupuncture is used to treat both acute, and chronic conditions.
The number of treatments needed varies from person to person, and depends on how long they have had their condition; lifestyle and general health.
We usually recommend a series of 4 – 6, weekly treatments, after which an assessment of progress is made and future treatments discussed. However, some conditions eg: infertility, may need a more long term treatment plan.
Diagnosis and the points used, are tailored specifically for each person, one treatment lasting between 45 minutes and 1 hour. I use massage in conjunction with needles for certain problems especially musculoskeletal issues.
After insertion the needles are left in for 20 minutes while the patient is left to relax with soothing music. Most people feel a sense of calm and peace after acupuncture, no matter what they are been treated for.
Many conditions, including stress, depression, insomnia, digestive and menstrual problems, hay-fever, skin conditions and much more can benefit from acupuncture; with migraine, sciatica and infertility especially responsive to treatment.Holistic therapy is a form of healing that considers the whole person — body, mind, spirit, and emotions — in the quest for optimal health and wellness. According to the holistic medicine philosophy, one can achieve optimal health — the primary goal of holistic medicine practice — by gaining proper balance in life.
We have a dedicated Acupuncturist working with us called Cath Spengler, and most of our physiotherapists are trained in Acupuncture for pain relief.
